Pfluger leads Texas GOP Delegation in demanding President Biden reimburse Texas for the border crisis, requesting meeting

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) led the Texas Republican delegation in sending a letter to President Biden urging immediate action on the border crisis. Congressman Pfluger led the letter with Representatives Pat Fallon, Chip Roy, Jodey C. Arrington, and Tony Gonzales.

In the letter, the members write: “The Texans we represent have been at the forefront of the crisis brought upon by your administration’s failed policies. Ranchers throughout west Texas routinely find bodies of dead migrants, or have their private property destroyed. Drugs flowing across our border have led to a record-number of American lives being ruined by poisonings from synthetic drugs, such as fentanyl. Small localities along the border are suffering from the federal government's failures. These towns should not be forced to reallocate their already exhausted resources to secure their communities.

[…]

“We urge you to work with the Texas Delegation to pay Texas back for the resources expended throughout Operation Lone Star, and we urge you to work with us to stop the flow of illegal migration at the southern border. Further, we also request a meeting with you to discuss the border crisis and the solutions proposed by Members of the Texas Delegation to put an end to this crisis.”

The letter is also signed by every member of the Republican Texas delegation, Representatives Dan Crenshaw, Brian Babin, Nathaniel Moran, Michael T. McCaul, Beth Van Duyne, Lance Gooden, Keith Self, Monica De La Cruz, Pete Sessions, Morgan Luttrell, Jake Ellzey, Ronny L. Jackson, Michael C. Burgess, M.D., Michael Cloud, Randy K. Weber, Sr., Roger Williams, Kay Granger, Wesley Hunt, John R. Carter, and Troy E. Nehls.”

Joseph R. Biden

President of the United States of America The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President,

We write regarding our concerns with the ongoing humanitarian crisis at the southwestern border. For the last two years, the State of Texas has been forced to take unprecedented steps to address this crisis.

Undoubtedly, the Texans we represent have been at the forefront of the crisis brought upon by your administration’s failed policies.

Even worse, 98 Known or Suspected Terrorists were apprehended attempting to cross our border in FY22 alone. It only took 19 terrorists to execute the 9/11 attacks that killed so many Americans. How many more are among the 600,000 who evaded detection by U.S. Border Patrol? Our border, our communities, and the United States of America will never be secured until you act to and enforce the laws Congress has put in place.

We urge you to work with the Texas Delegation to pay Texas back for the resources expended throughout Operation Lone Star, and we urge you to work with us to stop the flow of illegal migration at the southern border.

Further, we also request a meeting with you to discuss the border crisis and the solutions proposed by Members of the Texas Delegation to put an end to this crisis.

We look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

August Pfluger, Pat Fallon, Chip Roy, Jodey C. Arrington, Tony Gonzales, Dan Crenshaw, Brian Babin, Nathaniel Moran, Michael T. McCaul, Beth Van Duyne, Lance Gooden, Keith Self, Monica De La Cruz, Pete Sessions, Morgan Luttrell, Jake Ellzey, Ronny L. Jackson, Michael C. Burgess, M.D., Michael Cloud, Randy K. Weber, Sr., Roger Williams, Kay Granger, Wesley Hunt, John R. Carter, Troy E. Nehls
