Demanding Accountability for Biden's Afghanistan Disaster
This week, President Biden ordered the last plane carrying American troops to depart from Kabul, breaking his promise that no American will be left behind. I cannot imagine the hopeless despair of the hundreds of Americans that President Biden abandoned.
I was in Washington D.C. this week demanding the following: President Biden must produce a plan to rescue every single American; he must report to the American people the full list of every piece of equipment and artillery he left to the Taliban; the Biden Administration cannot recognize the Taliban as a legitimate government; and all cash payments to the Taliban must stop.
When we attempted to bring this plan of action to the House floor for a vote, Democrats blocked all efforts. Why are Democrats circumventing any attempt to extract President Biden's Afghanistan plan? Because they’re afraid of the truth getting out: there is NO plan.
President Biden's evacuation was nothing but disastrous and chaotic. He stranded hundreds of Americans behind enemy lines, allowed billions of dollars of U.S. military equipment to fall into the hands of the Taliban, destroyed our reputation with our allies, emboldened our enemies, and opened our citizens up to immense risk of terror attacks in the coming years.
Democrats solution to all of this is to sweep this disaster under the rug as quickly as possible and scramble to shield Biden from any and all criticism. I will remain vigilant in demanding answers for the needless loss of life and increased threats to our Homeland. We cannot let them get away with this.
Introduced a Bill to Assess Threat of Freed Terrorists
This week, I introduced the Afghanistan Withdrawal Threat Assessment Act which would require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to conduct a threat assessment to the Homeland posed by the prisoners that were released from the Pul-e-Charkhi Prison and the Parwan Detention Facility in Afghanistan. These facilities housed thousands of jailed ISIS and Al Qaeda fighters.
President Biden’s reckless and chaotic Afghanistan evacuation led to the Taliban releasing thousands of known and jailed terrorists from prisons in Afghanistan. There is no doubt in my mind that this failure by the Biden Administration has emboldened ISIS and Al Qaeda, who are sure to be plotting the next attack on American soil.
My legislation delivers critical answers on who these prisoners are and who they are associated with to help understand the threat they pose, as well as our ability to respond. The chaotic evacuation and continuing crisis at the southern border has made our country less safe and less secure. As the Ranking Member on the Intelligence and Counterterrorism subcommittee, I am committed to holding the Biden Administration’s feet to the fire to provide a clear picture of any and all future threats to the Homeland.
Demanding the Release of the Biden/Ghani Call Transcript
I joined a group of lawmakers in sending a letter to President Biden demanding an immediate release of the complete, uncensored transcript of his phone call with former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani after reports emerged this week that President Biden pressured Ghani into downplaying the threat posed by the Taliban just three weeks before the terrorist group took control of the country.
This damning phone call further erodes the confidence of the American people in this Administration's ability to lead. The President's disturbing emphasis on “perception,” a term used four times in the Reuters excerpts of the call with Ghani, over substance and truth demands scrutiny and accountability.
Congress has a duty to oversee the Executive Branch. The American people deserve answers and clarity. We are urging the Administration to expeditiously release the full transcripts of the call.
I led a group of lawmakers in sending a letter to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania expressing support for Lithuania’s will to counter the growing malign influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Europe.
At this critical moment, it is important as ever to reassure our most vulnerable allies of the unflinching support and commitment of the United States. Lithuania is a strong NATO ally and stalwart defender of democracy in the face of authoritarian threats. Their bold decisions to leave the 17+1 Cooperative Framework Agreement and improve relations with Taiwan underscores Lithuania’s commitment to transatlantic security and support of democratic values across the globe.
While recent punitive actions toward Lithuania are a reminder of the malign intensions of the CCP, they also serve to highlight the immense pressure countries like Lithuania face from authoritarian regimes.
I commend Lithuania’s intrepid commitment to protect democratic values and stand up to the bullying of the CCP. Their actions should serve as an inspiration to others in the region. We stand ready to support you.
My Republican colleagues and I came to Washington, D.C. to demand that Nancy Pelosi reconvene Congress so we can get answers on exactly how many Americans are left behind and what the Biden Administration's plan is for getting them out.
This entire disaster will forever be a stain on American fortitude and American resolve. President Biden, reverse course and rescue our citizens.
I went on Fox and Friends First to discuss, you can watch here.
