Pfluger, Arrington call Save America Act ‘common sense’

Two West Texas congressmen are voicing support for the Save America Act, legislation that would require proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote and a government-issued photo ID to cast a ballot in federal elections.

U.S. Representative August Pfluger, who represents Texas’ 11th Congressional District, called the measure “common sense.”

“Number one, it requires you to register to vote, improve your citizenship, and then when you go and vote, it requires you to provide a government-issued ID. This is common sense. We need the Senate to pass this. Most Americans, to the tune of 85%, agree that we should have election integrity,” Pfluger shared.

House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington, who represents Texas’ 19th Congressional District, also expressed support for the legislation.

“First, the Constitution is clear: rules for running elections have been delegated to the states, but in that same provision, the Constitution says Congress may at any time alter the process. Certainly, I think our Founding Fathers would support strengthening the integrity of our elections,” Arrington said on the House floor. “Democrats know this. They must think the American people, though, have forgotten about their ‘For the Politicians Act’ in the 117th Congress, where they basically codified a COVID-era, fraud-ridden election law that included, ironically, prohibiting voter ID, essentially, also ballot harvesting, promoting mass voting by mail, and taking taxpayer dollars to fund political campaigns.”
