On Rep. Pfluger's Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act, set to pass the House:
"We had to fight an overburdensome regulatory state that didn't want us to be able to export LNG, and it's really important for our partners and allies. This piece of legislation cuts the red tape, gets back to a point of business where you can get it quickly approved, and then we can get on with a predictable future. The oil and gas industry needs predictability. This is a 20-year, 30-year type contract that they're going to sign with countries like Japan and Korea, other countries that don't have access to LNG, so it's really important... And Democrats fought this tooth and nail because they know that this means we have a long-term, stable, predictable future for LNG. One of the most important things, Maria, is what we do next, and that's permitting reform. And our focus on the Energy and Commerce Committee, on the Natural Resources Committee, is permitting reform to make sure that we can get this quickly done. It doesn't take 10 years to get a pipeline approved, and we know it should actually take less than a year."
On Rep. Pfluger's legislative package to prevent government officials from lobbying on behalf of foreign entities:
"It's disappointing we have to actually introduce legislation like this. But take Obama's Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, who actually lobbied for a Chinese company. We need to know that. We need to be able to have laws in place that if you're a senior official, you can't lobby, you can't be paid, you can't act on behalf of adversarial nations like Iran, like China, like Russia, because you know, the business of the United States government. This is common sense, and I think our public deserves to have some trust that if you serve in those senior positions, you're not going to immediately go make off of China...It's unbelievable, and that's really why we had to introduce this. Because people were capitalizing on their experience. They serve in these senior positions, they have access to information of the United States government, and in a lot of cases, classified information, on what we need to do to compete with these countries, and then they go cash in with adversarial nations. It's not right. That's why this legislation is important."
Background:
On the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act:
Earlier this year, Rep. Pfluger and Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) introduced this legislation to slash red tape and remove a duplicative authorization permit that slows down the export of American liquid natural gas (LNG). The legislation depoliticizes the export of LNG by eliminating the requirement for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to authorize its export and instead giving the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) sole authority over the approval process. This is a critical step towards American energy dominance because during the Biden-era energy crisis, the administration weaponized the DOE’s export authorization authority to ban the export of LNG to our allies across the globe. On the legislation to safeguard American national security:
Yesterday, Rep. Pfluger introduced a package of bills to counter foreign adversarial influence in America. The package includes three critical, bipartisan, bicameral bills that will prevent senior government officials from ever lobbying on behalf of an adversarial nation such as China, Russia, North Korea, or Iran. The three bills included the Restricting Ex-Vetted Officials from Knowledge Exploitation ("REVOKE") Act, the Preventing Adversary Influence, Disinformation, and Obscured Foreign Financing ("PAID OFF") Act of 2025, and the Conflict-free Leaving Employment and Activity Restrictions ("CLEAR") Path Act.
