Emphasizing the value of in-person engagement, Pfluger said, “Since I’ve been elected, we’ve done almost a hundred in-person town halls. It’s really important for constituents to be able to ask questions, to talk about the legislation that we passed, and to bring up topics both difficult and easy.” One of the main topics was the looming government shutdown, the first the nation has faced since 2018. Pfluger criticized Senate Democrats for not advancing the funding bill sent by the House. “Well, we’re waiting on the Senate, and specifically Chuck Schumer, to pass the funding bill that we in the House sent to him over a week ago,” Pfluger said. “It’s a clean extension of funding. There’s no changes to it.” He added that his office stands ready to assist federal employees and agencies if a shutdown occurs. Pfluger also addressed political violence, referencing the recent killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. He stressed the need for unity. “This country is great because we have a First Amendment that allows debate and discourse,” Pfluger said. “It allows people to speak their minds, which is exactly what my friend Charlie Kirk did.” “We must all be willing to condemn any type of political violence, no matter where it comes from.” Turning to his legislative work, Pfluger highlighted his bipartisan efforts. “We have to listen to each other,” Pfluger said. “I’m proud to have passed the most legislation this year of any congressman, and every single piece of legislation that I have passed has been bipartisan that’s not reported in the news.” He also addressed the summer’s Working Families Tax Act, noting widespread misinformation about the bill and the importance of town halls for clarifying its benefits. “You know, it’s tough,” Pfluger said. “Obviously, when you refer back to the bill that we passed in the summer, one Big Beautiful Bill, or working-families Tax Act, there’s so much misinformation that’s been put out. We have to sift through it. That’s another reason town halls are important, and many people will come in with a thought that, well, you’re doing that and the other and they didn’t actually realize that that wasn’t true, or that the tax benefits are affecting so many people, like, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, or Social Security. I mean, these are really important provisions that I think a lot of people miss, because the news media has not doing all of the not telling the whole truth on it. He wrapped up the meeting by reaffirming his commitment to the Concho Valley. “I love representing the Concho Valley,” Pfluger said. “This is the best place to be from. It’s the best place to represent. It is the best district in the entire country. Pfluger was praising the community’s patriotism and willingness to help neighbors in times of need. |
