Texas – The newly elected District 11 representative has filed his first piece of legislation and it is aimed at the oil and gas industry.

Rep. August Pfluger filed Saving America’s Energy Future Act Wednesday night.

The bill, according to a release from Pfluger’s office, would “prohibit the Biden administration from declaring a moratorium on issuing new oil and gas permits from drilling on federal lands.”

Now President-Elect Joe Biden vowed during his heated battle with President Donald Trump to end new oil and gas permits on federal lands, catching the ear of many in West Texas.

“My primary concern in Congress is to protect our oil and gas industry from the radical Democrats who will soon control the House, Senate and White House,” Pfluger said in a statement. “President-Elect Joe Biden campaigned on the promise to shut down drilling on all federal lands and phase our fossil fuels. This, in conjunction with ludicrous policies like the Green New Deal, could mean the end to our oil and gas industry and the American economy as we know it. The Permian Basin producers over 40% of our nation’s energy. This is clean, affordable, reliable energy that powers our nation, heats our homes, and allows us to defend ourselves. Energy security is national security, and nothing could be more important.”

Cosponsors on the bill include Tony Gonzales (R-23), Stephanie Bice (R-OK), Ronny Jackson (R-13), Yvette Herrell (R-NM), Brian Babin (R-36), Chip Roy (R-21), Dan Crenshaw (R-2), Pat Fallon (R-4) and Jodey Arrington (R-19).
