Pfluger Fly-By: August 1, 2025

August 1, 2025

Friend,

Welcome back to the weekly Pfluger Fly-By, a roundup of events and updates to keep you informed about everything I'm doing week by week to represent you in Congress.

It was a busy week back in Texas-11! I was honored to co-host the 21st Annual West Texas Legislative Summit in conjunction with the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, Texas Senator Charles Perry, and Texas Representative Drew Darby. This week, I also had the privilege of joining General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for a tour of Goodfellow Air Force Base. In addition, I held two town halls in San Angelo and Mertzon.

I've included some photos and highlights from the week below. Our office stands ready to assist residents across Texas-11 who have been impacted by flooding. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you or someone you know needs assistance in our community.

Best,

21st Annual West Texas Legislative Summit

I was honored to co-host the West Texas Legislative Summit (WTLS) alongside the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, State Senator Charles Perry, and State Representative Drew Darby. The WTLS is an incredible event bringing together hundreds of elected officials, business professionals, and industry leaders on issues impacting West Texas.

This year's summit focused on how West Texas is driving American strength from the ground up. Topics included border security, the One Big Beautiful Bill, energy, agriculture, rural healthcare, and the crossroad of space and connectivity. Every single year, I am blown away by the insightful conversations and caliber of participants.

We were honored to be joined by many guest speakers, including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Staff Director, Griffin Decker, Executive Assistant Commissioner at Customs and Border Patrol, Jonathan Miller, House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19), and many more. A special thank you to everyone who attended and the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce for pulling off a wonderful event.

Combating Illicit Xylazine

Our country continues to face a drug epidemic that is impacting families across America. We must crack down on deadly drugs being flooded into our communities, especially given that drug traffickers are turning to xylazine, a veterinary tranquilizer, to make drugs more addictive—and more deadly.

Earlier this year, I reintroduced the bipartisan and bicameral Combating Illicit Xylazine Act that will crack down on the deadly fentanyl additive xylazine by listing it as a Schedule III controlled substance while protecting the drug’s legal use by veterinarians, farmers, and ranchers. Read my joint op-ed with Congressman Jimmy Panetta along with U.S Senators Chuck Grassley and Catherine Cortez Masto on the urgent need to address illicit xylazine here or by clicking the image below.

Joint Chiefs of Staff General Caine Visits Goodfellow Air Force Base

Goodfellow Air Force Base is the gold standard in military training—from firefighting to intelligence and cryptologic operations, this base is equipping mission-ready warfighters. It was a privilege to join the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, and SEAC David Isom on their tour of Goodfellow and help highlight the outstanding work being done here every single day. Leadership starts at the top, and General Caine doesn't just set the standard—he embodies it. Americans can rest easier knowing someone of his caliber is leading our armed forces.

Addressing the Rise of Antisemitic Attacks on U.S. Soil

As Chairman of the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, I held a roundtable to address the alarming rise of antisemitic attacks. Just this year alone, Americans have witnessed several antisemitic attacks on the Jewish community in Colorado and Washington, D.C. This cycle of violence must end, especially on United States soil.

Jewish communities across the country are living in fear, and I am committed to standing with them. This roundtable comes at a critical moment: a far-left activist who has defended the phrase ā€˜globalize the intifada’ is inching closer to leading a city home to one of the world’s largest Jewish populations. Antisemitic and anti-Israel rhetoric is becoming dangerously mainstream. We must act to expose and combat this vile hatred. Town Halls in San Angelo and Mertzon

It was a pleasure to host town halls in San Angelo and Mertzon this week to hear your concerns and ideas on the direction of our country. I was honored to recognize the City of San Angelo, Tom Green County officials, and several brave volunteer fire departments for their heroism and response to the July 4th flooding. In Mertzon, I recognized the Irion County Senior Rifle Team, which recently placed 9th out of 28 teams at the State 4-H Shooting Sports Match.

Hosting town halls across Texas-11 will always be a top priority of mine because hearing directly from the hardworking men and women who call this district home is essential to my work. Thank you to everyone who came out to listen, ask questions, and provide feedback on how I can better represent you and your families in Congress.
