May 30, 2025

Friend,

Welcome back to the weekly Pfluger Fly-By, a roundup of events and updates to keep you informed about everything I'm doing week by week to represent you in Congress.

This week, I joined Mornings with Maria on Fox Business to discuss the path forward for the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," sat down for an interview with The Texan, celebrated 101 years of the U.S. Border Patrol, authored an op-ed on restoring accountability on U.S. college campuses, my office welcomed students from Lampasas Middle School for a U.S. Capitol tour, and more.

I've included some photos and highlights from the week below. You'll also find information on how my office can assist you with any federal issues you may be facing. As always, please don't hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance.

Best,

In Memory of Andy "Pablo" Shurtleff

My dear friend and fellow wingman, Andy "Pablo" Shurtleff, went to be with the Lord this past week. Andy served his country with distinction as a fighter pilot, yet fought his bravest and hardest battle with cancer.

He was an inspiration to all, and he was the driving force and champion behind the ACES Act, which will study the causes of military aviation-related cancer. The legislation is expected to pass both chambers of Congress and become law soon.

Our prayers are with his wife, Julie, and his two boys as they navigate these challenging times.

In fighter pilot tradition, "Nickel on the grass to you, Pablo."

Joining Mornings with Maria on Fox Business

This week, I joined Mornings with Maria on Fox Business in-studio to discuss the path forward for the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act." This monumental legislation, passed by the House, secures $1.6 trillion in savings for the American people, the largest in U.S. history. The bill now heads to the U.S. Senate for further consideration. During the interview, we also covered President Trump's energy agenda and its profound impact on the Permian Basin.

Discussing the "One Big, Beautiful Bill Act" in The Texan

I sat down with The Texan to discuss the strong start to the 119th Congress with President Trump back in the White House. With the passage of the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," we're moving full steam ahead on our conservative agenda to get America back on track. Now, we must codify President Trump's executive orders into law to ensure no future Democrat administration can undo this critical work with the stroke of a pen.

Celebrating 101 Years of the U.S. Border Patrol

This week marked the 101st anniversary of the U.S. Border Patrol! As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, I am committed to ensuring our Border Patrol Agents have the tools, resources, and technology they need to effectively secure our border.

I thank President Trump for honoring these incredible heroes. Their service, sacrifice, and steadfast dedication do not go unnoticed. God bless our Border Patrol Agents and all those who work tirelessly to keep America safe.

Restoring Accountability on College Campuses

Over the past decade, federal funding to private universities has surged while transparency within these institutions has plummeted. It's time for elitist universities to put their money where their mouth is: either demonstrate an unwavering commitment to fighting all forms of discrimination or forfeit every penny of taxpayer funding.

American taxpayers deserve schools that reflect our values, not just cash our checks. I recently authored an op-ed making the case for how we can restore accountability at private institutions of higher education, like Harvard.

My Recent Radio Appearance on KWEL Morning Show

Listen to my recent interview with Craig Anderson on KWEL, where we dove into the House passage of the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," a historic step forward for fiscal responsibility and savings for the American people.

Lampasas Middle School Students in Washington

My office had the pleasure of facilitating a U.S. Capitol Tour for Lampasas Middle School students this week in Washington, D.C. Thank you to the chaperones, parents, and teachers who made their visit possible.

If you are visiting Washington this summer, my office would be thrilled to help book a tour of the U.S. Capitol building for you and your group. We can also assist with requests for White House tours and tours of other iconic landmarks around D.C.

ICYMI: 2025 Congressional Art Competition Winner

In Case You Missed It (ICYMI): Last week, I was proud to announce Korbin Jastrow, a Senior at San Angelo Central High School, as the winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for her piece titled 'The Exception.' Her winning piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year.

For yet another year, I was completely blown away by the incredible talent of students across Texas's 11th Congressional District. In a blind selection process, the committee selected Korbin's piece for its unique take on Texas agriculture.

In her submission, Korbin explained how she created the piece, stating, "The cow was drawn with pencil, then stamped with handmade stamps representing the Indian paintbrush and bluebonnets. The background was done with acrylic paint, and the shadows behind the cow were done with tissue paper."

Congratulations, Korbin!
