May 16, 2025

Friend,

Welcome back to the weekly Pfluger Fly-By, a roundup of events and updates to keep you informed on everything I am doing week by week to represent you in Congress.

It was another big week in Washington, D.C.! House Energy and Commerce Republicans advanced our reconciliation package, I led 177 of my Republican colleagues in a letter calling for the complete suspension of Iran's nuclear enrichment, participated in the Committee on Homeland Security's hearing with Secretary Noem, introduced several pieces of legislation, celebrated National Police Week, and more!

I have included some photos and highlights from the week. You'll also find information on how my office can assist you with any federal issues you may be facing. As always, please do not hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance.

Best,

U.S. House Energy & Commerce Republicans Advance Reconciliation Package

This week, I participated in the House Energy and Commerce Committee's full committee markup to advance President Trump's agenda through the 'One, Big, Beautiful Bill.' Despite more than twenty-six hours of Democrat distractions, falsehoods, and baseless debate, Energy and Commerce Republicans stayed focused on delivering real, commonsense results for the American people.

Once signed into law, this transformative package will put an end to wasteful spending on radical Green New Deal-style programs, unleash American energy dominance to support the rapid innovation of American industry, and preserve and protect Medicaid for the eligible, vulnerable Texans and Americans who truly need it. It also expands rural connectivity through smart spectrum policy while safeguarding our national security interests.

Through these commonsense policies, we’re building a stronger, more secure America for generations to come. I remain fully committed to getting the 'One Big, Beautiful Bill' to President Trump's desk. You can read more about the package here.

Calling for a Complete & Permanent Suspension of Iran's Nuclear Program

As Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, I led 177 of my colleagues in the U.S. House expressing unwavering support for President Trump's clear-eyed approach to the complete and permanent suspension of Iran's nuclear program. Senator Pete Ricketts led the letter in the Senate, garnering additional support from 52 U.S. Republican Senators.

The previous administration's misguided policies allowed Iran to reach the brink of nuclear breakout. In contrast, the Republican Study Committee's continued leadership on this critical issue sends a strong and united message: Congress stands firmly behind the President's stance against any Iranian nuclear enrichment capability.

DHS Secretary Noem Testifies Before Homeland Security Committee

This week, the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security hosted a hearing on the Fiscal Year 2026 Budget for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), featuring testimony from DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. It is refreshing to have an administration and president who value securing the border and bolstering our national security.

Thanks to the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Noem, border encounters are significantly down, criminals are being taken off the streets, and the rule of law is being restored. I specifically asked the secretary what DHS is doing to find and remove known and suspected terrorists (KSTs) who entered the U.S. under the previous administration.

Introducing the Conscience Protection Act

I introduced the Conscience Protection Act of 2025 alongside Senator James Lankford (R-OK) this week, which would protect healthcare providers who refuse to support or promote abortion.

As a father of three young daughters and a firm believer that life begins at conception, protecting the unborn is not just a policy stance— it's a moral obligation. This legislation protects healthcare professionals from being penalized or discriminated against for not participating in, paying for, or facilitating abortions due to their beliefs.

Introducing Legislation to Counter Unauthorized Drones in the U.S.

This week, I also introduced bipartisan, bicameral legislation to unleash the U.S. military on enemy drones within the U.S. The Comprehensive Operations for Unmanned-System Neutralization and Threat Elimination Response (COUNTER) Act would allow more military bases to become a "covered facility" to gain the authority to shoot down unauthorized drones that hover in their airspace.

This legislation is critical as unauthorized drone activity near and over U.S. military installations has become a persistent and growing national security concern. In the past year alone, more than 350 drone detections have occurred at 100 different military installations. As a fighter pilot with hundreds of hours of combat experience, I know firsthand how critical airspace security is — and how urgent this action has become.

43rd Annual March of Dimes Gourmet Gala

I was deeply grateful to have my amazing wife, Camille, by my side in Washington, D.C. this week for the 43rd Annual March of Dimes Gourmet Gala. This year, we had the honor of serving as the event’s Honorary Co-Chairs, helping to raise a record-breaking $1.5 million in support of maternal and infant health across the country. Having Camille with me in D.C. always makes the week better, especially when we get to support such meaningful causes like this together.

Power The Future 'Energy Champion Award'

I was honored to receive Power the Future's April 'Energy Champion Award'. Since coming to Congress, advocating for the American energy industry and the incredible, hardworking men and women of the Permian Basin has been a top priority of mine. I will always stand up for American energy workers!

Celebrating National Police Week

This week was National Police Week! I am incredibly thankful for the service of our brave law enforcement officers, who devote their lives to serving and keeping our communities safe. In Congress, we celebrated police week by passing several pieces of legislation to support our men and women in blue, which included:

The LEOSA Reform Act allows qualified law enforcement officers who have committed themselves to their communities the opportunity to continue doing so by extending their concealed carry privileges.

The Federal Law Enforcement Officer Service Weapon Purchase Act allows current federal law enforcement officers in good standing to purchase a retired weapon at market value from a federal agency.

The Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act requires the Department of Justice to collect and report data on violent attacks against law enforcement officers, including government responses and gaps in reporting.

Meeting with the Safari Club International Board of Directors

This week, I met with the Safari Club International Board of Directors during their visit to our Nation's Capital. We discussed implementing commonsense policies that will preserve hunting and wildlife recreation for future generations. Thank you all for meeting with me!
