WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Senate passed Congressman August Pfluger's (TX-11) Congressional Review Act (CRA) to reverse Biden's ill-conceived natural gas tax after it passed through the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday. The CRA now awaits the President's signature to be signed into law. In response to his legislation's passage in the Senate, Rep. Pfluger said, “I applaud the Senate's swift passage of my CRA to reverse the Biden-era's harmful natural gas tax. During the debate of this legislation in the Senate today, Democrats completely ignored the facts, claiming Biden's rule is essential to 'lowering toxic emissions' and that eliminating the tax will 'cause prices to go up.' In reality, this rule has only stifled American energy production, discouraged investment, and increased energy prices across America. Before this rule was enacted, the American energy sector had already taken initiatives to hit record-low emissions while simultaneously hitting record-high production. No one wants to do business when the federal government creates regulations that will put them out of business, which is what this natural gas tax is doing. I thank Senator Hoeven for his leadership in the Senate, and I am thrilled that this legislation is now headed to the President's desk to eliminate this harmful tax once and for all!" Background: Earlier this month, Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11), alongside Congressman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) and Senator John Hoeven (R-ND), introduced the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to disapprove of the Environmental Protection Agency's burdensome charge on waste emissions for petroleum and natural gas. The harmful natural gas tax hurts energy producers in the Permian Basin and raises energy prices for every American consumer across the country by stifling production, innovation, and capital investment. Congressman Pfluger has fought the natural gas tax since its inception. Rep. Pfluger also penned an op-ed in the Daily Caller explaining what exactly this tax is and how his CRA is the first step toward eliminating the natural gas tax. This CRA passed through the House yesterday, receiving praise from key Republican leaders and stakeholders across the energy sector. |
