Pfluger Ends the Natural Gas Tax

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman August Pfluger's (TX-11) Congressional Review Act (CRA) to reverse Biden's ill-conceived natural gas tax passed through the U.S. House of Representatives. The harmful natural gas tax would hurt energy producers in the Permian Basin by stifling production, innovation, and capital investment. Congressman Pfluger has fought the natural gas tax since its inception.

In response to his legislation's passage, Rep. Pfluger said, “In November, the American people overwhelmingly voted for lower energy prices, and today, House Republicans took another step towards fulfilling that mandate. In the latest effort to reverse Biden's disastrous energy policies, the House passed my bill to nullify the EPA’s rule implementing the ill-conceived natural gas tax. This tax raises costs on production, discourages investment, and increases energy prices across America. I am looking forward to working toward a full repeal of the underlying statute and continuing to implement President Trump’s pro-energy agenda.”

Rep. Pfluger penned an op-ed in the Daily Caller explaining what exactly this tax is and how his CRA is the first step toward eliminating the natural gas tax once and for all.

Several key House Republican leaders also praised Rep. Pfluger for his leadership on this critical legislation and its passage:

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said, “Today, House Republicans rolled back the disastrous natural gas tax imposed by Democrats. This overreach has driven up energy prices, hurt domestic natural gas production, and increased reliance on foreign energy — without delivering any so-called environmental benefit. House Republicans are leveraging the Congressional Review Act to support President Trump in undoing the damage of the Biden Administration’s war on American energy.”

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said, “The Biden EPA’s waste emissions charge is a pass-through cost to consumers, raising prices for hardworking Americans and burdening taxpayers while doing little to actually help the environment. Families are already paying too much at the gas pump, the grocery store, in their utility bills, and everywhere else – we can’t raise costs even more with burdensome Washington regulations. Furthermore, the WEC would reduce domestic energy production and increase our dependence on foreign energy sources, threatening our national security. Thankfully, House Republicans passed legislation today to overturn this rule.”

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer said, “Today, the House took steps to roll back one of President Biden’s misguided rules that would have crippled our nation’s domestic energy production and imposed higher prices on the American people. In passing Rep. Pfluger’s bill, House Republicans are undoing the damage done by the Biden administration and putting America First.”

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain said, “House Republicans are wasting no time undoing Biden’s energy legacy. His disastrous policies have hurt domestic energy production and increased prices. Passing Rep. Pfluger’s bill will reverse the strict regulations and lower energy costs for all Americans.”

Representative Brett Guthrie, Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Rep. Morgan Griffith, Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, said, “It’s time to use the energy resources underneath our feet to provide the baseload power that the American people rely on. Implementing a new tax on our energy resources would limit innovation and raise prices for consumers. Today’s passage of Congressman Pfluger’s resolution is yet another step toward unleashing American energy dominance. We are grateful to Congressman Pfluger for his leadership on this issue and will work with the Senate to see it passed.”

Representative Troy Balderson, RSC House Energy Action Team (HEAT) Chairman, said, “The natural gas tax is one of the many failed policies of the Biden Administration that has raised costs for consumers and weakened American energy leadership. Investment in natural gas production has been instrumental in lowering carbon emissions and reducing reliance on foreign energy. Ohioans have seen firsthand how American natural gas revitalizes communities and creates good-paying jobs, yet climate activists in Washington remain determined to tax the future of American energy into oblivion. I’d like to thank Chairman Pfluger for his steadfast leadership in repealing the natural gas tax, and I applaud my colleagues in the House for passing this critical legislation.”

Background:

Earlier this month, Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11), alongside Congressman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) and Senator John Hoeven (R-ND), introduced the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to disapprove of the Environmental Protection Agency's burdensome charge on waste emissions for petroleum and natural gas.
