WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congressman August Pfluger's (TX-11) Protecting American Energy Production Act passed through the U.S. House of Representatives. This legislation prohibits any federal moratorium on the use of hydraulic fracturing—a threat heard many times over the last four years.
In response to his legislation's passage, Rep. Pfluger said, "When President Biden took office, his administration took a 'whole of government' approach to wage war on American energy production, pandering to woke environmental extremists and crippling this thriving industry. My legislation that passed today is a necessary first step in reversing Biden’s war on energy by preventing the federal government from banning the use of hydraulic fracturing. Fracking is a safe, clean, and effective way to produce affordable energy and strengthen our national security. This bill advances President Trump’s pro-energy agenda to restore America’s position as the world’s top oil and gas producer. I am blessed to represent America's most prolific oil and gas producing region and am committed to unleashing energy in the Permian Basin this Congress."
Several key House Republican leaders also praised Rep. Pfluger for his leadership on this critical legislation and its passage:
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said, "House Republicans are putting an end to the Democrats' war on American energy. Today’s passage of the Protecting American Energy Production Act helps restore American energy dominance and protects the jobs of hardworking men and women. This bill ensures fracking will remain an essential tool in our nation’s energy production, allowing us to harness regions like the Permian Basin rather than turning to foreign adversaries for our energy needs, and helping to fully unleash America’s energy potential.”
Representative Bruce Westerman, Chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources, said, “Today, Congress recognized the transformational impact of American innovation in energy. Just years ago, the U.S. was on track to run out of natural gas, and import terminals lined our coasts. Thanks to advancements in fracking, those terminals now export energy to the world, making us energy independent, revitalizing the economy, and helping our allies. With Congressman Pfluger’s important legislation, we’re ensuring that America’s energy revolution continues to fuel prosperity and national security for generations to come.”
Representative Brett Guthrie, Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said, “After four years of failed energy policy from the Biden Administration, it’s time to return to American energy dominance by generating the reliable baseload power our communities need. I’m grateful to Congressman Pfluger for his tireless work to pass the Protecting American Energy Production Act, which will supply affordable power, help to create family-sustaining jobs, and strengthen our national security.”
Representative Troy Balderson, RSC House Energy Action Team (HEAT) Chairman, said, “Today’s passage of the Protecting American Energy Production Act is a victory for Ohio’s energy producers and the future of American energy dominance. This bill supports states retaining control over fracking regulations and prevents any President from unilaterally shutting down this critical industry. The shale revolution has driven economic growth across Appalachian Ohio, and this legislation safeguards that progress for generations to come.”
