Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) released a video today speak out against a rushed impeachment that will only further divide our country Click here to watch the video. Full remarks: “The events of the last week have left many of us feeling hurt, confused, and horrified. Like many of the good, hard-working, honest folks in the 11th District of Texas, I am disappointed about the outcome of the 2020 Election, but sickened by the radical mob who descended on the U.S. Capitol to carry out vandalism and violence, which resulted in the deaths of at least five Americans—including U.S. Capitol Police Officers. “As I have said repeatedly in the past, I unequivocally condemn all acts of violence. I was glad to see the President denounce the violent acts today and call for peace, but I wish it would have been earlier. “We need to take a deep breath and think about how we move this country forward. “Impeachment is not the answer. “In fact, impeachment is a somber responsibility and one of the most significant processes entrusted to Congress by the Constitution. It is paramount that all proceedings adhere to Congressional rules, historic precedent, and allow for a deliberative process that the American people can trust, which includes due process. “This rushed impeachment, that hasn’t had a single House hearing and won't be taken up in the Senate until after the President's term has expired, will only further divide our country and alienate the over 74 million Americans who voted for President Trump and support conservative values. “It is time to turn down the temperature. “It is time to remember American exceptionalism. That the United States in the greatest country the world has ever known. That our system of self-governance is tried and tested. That decisions made in the United States Congress have liberated millions, raised generations out of poverty, educated our children, powered and fed the world, and eradicated disease. “And we will do this again. “It is time to put these dark times behind us and move forward as one. “God bless America, and God bless the 11th District of Texas.” |
